DL Earth (Original Version Stereo Mix) by Stu
After the raw power of last week’s Yerzmeyey track, I feel like taking things down a couple of notches. This ambient track by Stu uses the YM-2149 sound chip from the Atari ST, which is very similar to the AY-3-8910 of the ZX Spectrum. The timbre is about the same, but the more powerful ST allows for all kinds of other fun effects.
The occasional ambient chipmusic tracks one can find are frequently very good, just ask I Love Chipmusic. This track, being one of them, is kinda hard to describe or explain, really. It’s very different from Stu’s other releases, like GreateST HITs which has plenty of hard, fun breakbeats and catchy melodies. It’s much more subtle than that, using the soundchip for long ambient sounds, strangely patterned drums and subdued melodies (if one is present). There are also some fun stereo effects if you listen closely.
This track is only the first part of Elements. You should probably listen to all of them one after the other, they have a nice flow to ‘em, plus the whole thing isn’t very long. It has a remix of all four parts by Extraboy (aka Goto80) which I honestly think should be longer, but while it lasts it’s a lot of fun to hear them mixed together, with some extra acid thrown in for good measure. Yet another example of Ubiktune bringing excellent and unique chipmusic to you.
Yeah, this track is more or less just ambient chipmusic. Really well done ambient chipmusic.
