DL Collective Memory Loss by Aphilas
Since I’m still in a fairly relaxed mood this week, have some fairly relaxed music. It’s trip hop from the netlabel Miasmah, which has transitioned into a slightly more traditional record label. Still, all of their old releases are up there, and apparently they’ve got some demoscene ties, so try poking around. What I’ve heard from them tends to be slower, ambient stuff, usually with pretty good beats. Not always syncopated, but still good.
This track is from Instrumentally Ill, full of tracks that are just as ill as this one. They’ve all got the beautiful ambient-style sounds, thick beats, and catchy melodies, the classic trip hop sound. What makes this track stand out for me is the sudden doubling of the beats, transforming it from laid-back trip hop into laid-back atmospheric drum & bass (about as laid-back as that style can get, at least).
If it’s a nice day, consider going outside if you weren’t planning on it. Summer is going to be here too soon, and here at RIT we’ve just finished our last battle with winter. If it’s raining, this track goes great with that.
Other Miasmah release I considered: Magnets EP by Transient. I really need to drop a Transient track at some point.
